Light Crimson Underwing Catocala promissa

Wingspan 60-65 mm.

Like most of the British Catocala species, this moth can be attracted to light as well as sugar.

Oak (Quercus) is the larval foodplant.

It is a rare species, only occurring in parts of the southernmost counties where oak woodlands abound, and is on the wing during July and August.
