Caryocolum alsinella

(Zeller, 1868)

Wingspan c.9 mm.

A rather local species, having been recorded from sandy coastal areas around much of the British Isles, but probably overlooked.

Moths are on the wing in July and August and are attracted to light.

The larva feeds generally on mouse-ear (Cerastium spp.), initially mining the leaves, but later on spun flowers and seeds.
