Argyresthia glaucinella

Zeller, 1839

Wingspan c. 9mm.

This species has a fairly wide distribution across the British Isles, but is relatively local.

It occurs in woodland habitat, where the adults fly in June and July, though they are less easily encountered than other Argyresthia species.

The larvae feed beneath the surface of the bark of oak (Quercus) and horse-chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) and birch (Betula) where their presence is sometimes betrayed by reddish frass on the surface.
