Altenia scriptella

(Hübner, 1796)

Wingspan c.12 mm.

Locally distributed in southern and central England, this species has been recorded as far north as Cumbria, preferring woodland margins and hedgerows.

There is a single generation, with moths on the wing in June and July, when they can be attracted to light.

The larva feeds in a folded leaf of field maple (Acer campestris).
