Acrolepiopsis betulella

(Curtis, 1838)

Wingspan c.12-14mm.

A rather scarce and local species, with most recent records from scattered localities in Scotland, although previously it was known from parts of Northern England.

The adult moth, though fairly distinctive in appearance, is not often encountered but emerges from August, overwintering and appearing again in spring. It is sometimes attracted to light.

Ramson's (Allium ursinum) is the host foodplant, the larvae feeding internally in seed capsules or flowerheads between May and July.
