1363 Pyrausta ostrinalis

(Hübner, 1796)

Wingspan 15-21 mm.

Due to its similarity to P. purpuralis, the distribution and life history of this moth are incompletely known, but are considered to be similar to that species, although scarcer.

The two species can be found flying together in the same localities, and care has to be taken to distinguish them. P. ostrinalis has a narrower forewing and paler yellow markings, and there are subtle differences in the underside wing pattern.
