1073 Olethreutes schulziana

(Fabricius, 1777)

Wingspan 14-25 mm.

A moorland species, this moth is commonest in the north of England, becoming less common north to Scotland, and scarce in the south of Britain.

The foodplants are not well described in the literature, but the larva has been found on crowberry (Empetrum nigrum) and heather (Calluna vulgaris), feeding in a long tube. (R.J. Heckford)

Flying from June to August, it is easily disturbed during the day from the heather, and flies in the late afternoon and evening.
