Wingspan - 13-17 mm.

This moth is found on the wing during May and June. It is widespread and commonly found throughout Britain.

The species is variable in appearance, depending on the amount of brownish scales on the forewing.

The larva feeds on birch (Betula) and alder (Alnus).
