2235 Tawny Pinion Lithophane semibrunnea

Wingspan 40-44 mm.Distributed sparsely in the southern part of England and Wales, occasionally reaching northwards to the northern counties. The individual shown was captured in Cheshire.
The species flies late in the autumn, in October and November, and then hibernates, reappearing in April and May.
The preferred habitats are open woodland and marshy places, and the larvae feed mainly on ash (Fraxinus excelsior).
