1409a Diaphania perspectalis

(Walker, 1859)

Wingspan c. 40mm.

The Weybridge, Surrey individual shown was the first record for Britain of this Asian species. It was attracted to M.V. light on 5th September 2008. Since then there have been a number of other records, including examples from Sussex, Essex and Buckinghamshire, and indeed an earlier record has been revealed, of one found in Kent in 2007. The species has also been recorded from Germany and the Netherlands.

The moth is a pest species of box (Buxus), and is almost certainly an introduction with imported Buxus plants.
