Wingspan c.8 mm.A relatively local species occurring in England and Wales, less common in the eastern counties. A single generation flies in July and August but is not easy to locate as an adult.
Enchanter's nightshade (Circaea lutetiana) is the foodplant of the larva, which creates a mine beginning as a series of concentric circles then widens into a blotch containing a scattered line of frass. The mines are quite obvious and can be found in August and September.
