1998 Poplar Kitten Furcula bifida

(Brahm, 1787)

Wingspan 35-45 mm.

Quite similar in appearance to Sallow Kitten, this species is however usually larger, and the outer edge of the grey wing bar is more smoothly curved with a prominent darker edge.

It has a more restricted distribution than the above species, occurring mostly in southern England and Wales, and scarce in Ireland.

The larval foodplants are usually poplars (Populus), including aspen (P. tremula), though sometimes sallow (Salix) is used.
