Wingspan 12-17 mm.The scientific name of this species derives from the hooked apex of the forewing, although several other species in the genus exhibit similar characters. A more useful identification pointer is the acute angle of the median fascia.
Frequenting woodland, fens and marshy areas, it is a relatively scarce moth, distributed locally in the south and south-west of England and Wales, extending sparsely northwards to northern England.
The larva feeds on buckthorn (Rhamnus catharticus) and alder buckthorn (Frangula alnus), folding and spinning leaves together.
