2144 Broad-bordered White Underwing Anarta melanopa

Wingspan c.25mm.This montane species is found in high altitude (usually above 600m) throughout much of Scotland, though it is most frequent in the central Highlands. A single record exists from Northumberland.
The adults fly during the day, especially in sunshine, during May and June and visits various flowers to take nectar.
The larva feeds on a number of montane plants, such as crowberry (Empetrum nigrum) and bearberry (Arctylostaphylos uva-ursi).
