2164 Broad-barred White Hecatera bicolorata

(Hufnagel, 1766)

Wingspan 28-35 mm.

Found throughout England and Wales, though more commonly in the south and east, it has a scattered distribution elsewhere, being local in Scotland and Ireland.

Its preferred habitats are downland, wasteland and suburban areas, where it flies from June to August.

The larvae feed on the flowers and buds of such plants as hawkweed (Hieracium) and hawk's-beard (Crepis spp.).
