638a Denisia albimaculea

(Haworth, 1828)

Wingspan 9-12 mm.

The eggs of this species are laid in crevices on the bark of trees, such as larch (Larix), maple (Acer), lime (Tilia), apple (Malus) and elm (Ulmus) where the larvae emerge to form silken galleries, and where pupation occurs in early spring.

The adults emerge in a single generation in May and June and may be found sitting on tree trunks. The individual photographed was found sitting on a maple trunk in a Manchester park.
