Wingspan 4-5 mm.A rather local species, distributed only in the south-east of England, mainly coastally. However, it can be fairly numerous where it occurs.
The larvae mine the leaves of bramble (Rubus fruticosus), and their presence is betrayed by the fact that the mined area of the leaf turns reddish or purple. Occupied mines can be found between October and December.
The adult moths are fairly typical of the group, being dark greyish brown with a whitish, sometimes broken, fascia, and a yellowish head.
