2480 Buttoned Snout Hypena rostralis

(Linnaeus, 1758)

Wingspan 27-32 mm.

A locally fairly common species in the south-east of England, it was formerly more widespread.

The larvae feed on the leaves of hop (Humulus lupulus).

The adults can be found in woodland fringes, hedgerows and similar places from August to October, after which they hibernate and then reappear in the spring.
