Wingspan 23-27 mm.

A single-brooded species, which flies from June to August, and occupies woodland, parks, gardens and orchards.

The overwintering larvae feed on lichens which grow on the bark of a variety of deciduous and coniferous trees.

It is locally distributed over the southern half of Britain.
