2304 Orache Moth Trachea atriplicis

(Linnaeus, 1758)

Wingspan 38-42 mm.

Formerly resident in the East Anglian and Cambridgeshire fens, it was last recorded in these areas in 1915. A number of records since refer to migrants and have appeared mainly on the south and east coasts, mainly in July and August.

The species is fairly common in much of continental Europe, where the larvae feed on orache (Atriplex) and goosefoot (Chenopodium) amongst a range of other low plants.
