2218 The Cudweed Cucullia gnaphalii

Boursin, 1945

Wingspan 38-46 mm.

Formerly widely distributed in the south-eastern counties of England, this species is now possibly extinct in the British Isles, as it has not been recorded here since the late 1970's.

The flight period is from May to July, although the adults are generally difficult to see.

The larvae feed on goldenrod (Solidago virgaurea), both on the flowers and leaves.
