20 Ectoedemia decentella

(Herrich-Schäffer, 1855)

Wingspan 5-8mm.

This well-marked nepticulid is one of the few of this group easily recognisable by forewing markings alone.

The larvae form slender mines within sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus) seeds.

The adults emerge in two generations, in June and August. They may often be found resting on sycamore trunks, and are also attracted to light. The moth is locally distributed throughout much of England
