1948 Small Engrailed Ectropis crepuscularia
([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)
Wingspan 38-44 mm.Very difficult to tell apart from The Engrailed (Ectropis bistortata); in fact some authors consider them to be conspecific. Generally, the species is paler and flies in May and June, whereas E. bistortata flies in two generations, in March and , and then in July and August.
Because of the identification problems, the distribution information is a little sketchy, but it is widespread in Britain northwards to southern Scotland.
The foodplants are birch (Betula), sallow (Salix) as well as other trees.
