1929 Rannoch Brindled Beauty Lycia lapponaria
(Harrison, 1916)Wingspan 31-34 mm. (male)
Like some related species, the females of this upland moth are wingless. The males have whitish forewings marked with black and both sexes have red markings on the thorax and abdomen.
In Britain, it is restricted to the damp moorland habitats of central and northern Scotland.
The adults emerge in April, and the grey and yellow-marked caterpillars feed on a number of moorland plants such as bog myrtle (Myrica gale) and heather (Calluna).
