1801 Barred Carpet Perizoma taeniata

(Stephens, 1831)

Wingspan c. 28mm.

This scarce and local species has a rather scattered distribution from southern England through parts of north and north-west England and into Scotland and Ireland.

It frequents damp woodland and similar habitats and flies from late June to early September in a single generation.

The larva has not been recorded in the wild, but it is thought to possibly feed on mosses. In captivity the larvae will feed on a number of different plants.
