([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan 31-36 mm.

Distributed mainly in the southern half of Britain, occupying hedgerows and open woodland on calcareous soils, this species always shows subtle and indistinct markings.

The caterpillar is pale brown marked with darker blotches along the back, and feeds on traveller's joy (Clematis vitalba).
