1737 Small Argent & Sable Epirrhoe tristata

(Linnaeus, 1758)

Wingspan 24-26 mm.

Like its larger namesake, the Argent & Sable, this can be found on the wing in the afternoon, but also flies at dusk.

It inhabits moorland and other upland habitats, and flies from May to July.

It is relatively common in suitable localities through much of Britain.

The larvae feed on heath bedstraw (Galium saxatile).
