Wingspan 25-30 mm.

Although distributed mainly in the southern half of England and in Wales, this species is rather local and uncommon.

It has two generations, flying firstly in May and June and again in August and September.

The caterpillars can be green or brownish yellow, and feed on the leaves of oak (Quercus).
