1677 Birch Mocha Cyclophora albipunctata

(Hufnagel, 1767)

Wingspan 20-25 mm.

A delicately mottled and speckled species, this moth sometimes shows a rosy flush, but other specimens may be fairly grey in appearance.

As suggested by the English name, the larvae feed on birch (Betula).

It occurs in woodland areas in much of Britain, except for parts of northern England, and flies in May and June, with a second generation in August in the south.
