Wingspan c.12 mm.Although common locally in the southern counties of Britain, this species becomes scarcer northwards, and the adult depicted, found in 2005, was only the second Yorkshire record. It has however occurred into Scotland.
It is a species associated with woodland, the larva feeding mainly on the new shoots and spun leaves of oak (Quercus), but also on birch (Betula) and blackthorn (Prunus spinosa).
Emerging in May or June, the adult moths fly in sunshine both in early morning and afternoon, and into the evening.
