Wingspan c. 18mm.Distributed throughout much of the British Isles, but local, this retiring species is difficult to find in the daytime but can be attracted to light after dark.
It flies in July and August, inhabiting meadows and fields and also occurs in farmland.
The larvae feed in the stems and rootstock of woundwort (Stachys) and corn-mint (Mentha arvensis).
